No Bam In D-Lam Jam In Farn-Ham

The sixth annual D-Lam Jam of 2008 saw a variety of skateboarding trickery at Farnham's recently improved skatepark. On arrival in the morning, it was looking pretty wet and gloomy, but as the crowd grew and the music got started, the sun came out and we were ready to get things underway.
The under 16 heats provided a good mix of tricks, with six year old Kyle leading the way by dropping in on the big quarter on the count of three!

The final round was close with Morgan getting a boardslide down the rail and Joe Fletcher landing a lipslide on the quarter. The mayor arrived to see the over 16 skateboard final get underway and as always was treated to a high standard of skateboarding which involved the best locals putting on a great show for the crowd.

After donating a valuable painting to the prize pile, Crazy Rich in his suit led the way with a throw on darkslide on the grindbox. Lewis was getting double flips on the flat whilst Louis managed to stick a big spin backside disaster on the quarter. As predicted the battle between rippers Sam Ridgers and Dean Robertson was always going to be a classic as both of them have improved so much over the last year or so.

Sam got varial heelflips and switch flips on the driveway, nollie bigspin heelflips on the flatbank and big melon pre-grabs on the big quarter.
Dean was ruling all day and really stepped it up in the final, landing a Blunt flip in on the big quarter, 360 flip on the driveway,

a backside flip off the driveway to the flat and a Flip backside 5-0 down the ledge to secure first place.

Big thanks to Waverley Borough Council for supporting the local skateboarding scene again, Shrubsoul for the music, Simon Clark for the photos and Chris Pulman for getting involved again this year.

As you may be aware, Route One has had skate and inline teams running for a couple of years now and they are going from strength to strength. Recently, we've seen an upsurge in the amount of rider videos appearing on sites such as Mpora and YouTube, and it's easy to see why.

Here's a sample of some of the more recent vids, featuring, Joe Lynskey, Avid and Manhead. All 3 videos are all titled One Day In May, having been shot in Leeds, on just one day. Efficient skating fellas, keep it up!

Holy Clever Film Tie-Ins Batman!

As you may have heard already, there is a new Batman film on the way. In the news for all the wrong reasons lately, it shouldn't be forgotten that this is probably going to be the best Batman film ever.
Subtitled the Dark Knight, dark is exactly what this film is, with Gotham City never having looked so good, with the sadly departed Heath Ledger giving a career defining (and potential Oscar winning) performance as The Joker.
To tie in with the film, New Era have released some limited number Batman caps, and we've hand-picked the best of the bunch to offer to you, which you can see below. So whether you're a Batman fan, a New Era freak or both, there's bound to be something to tickle your fancy. So take a look and get involved, they won't be around for long...
If you haven't seen much of the film yet, click through to the full post to see the spectacular trailer.

Southbank Lives On!

You might remember a little while ago we ran a story about London's Southbank and plan's for the development of skater's paradise - the Undercroft. A petition was created and here is the official response from No.10:

The Southbank Centre is an independent arts organisation and decisions about the Undercroft are a matter for them. However, the Southbank Centre recognises the importance of the Undercroft in bringing together skateboarders from across the UK and the value that the skateboarding community has brought to many young people and the South Bank area itself. Any activity that engages and develops young people can have a very positive impact on society and the skateboarding community that has grown up around the Undercroft has brought together people from various backgrounds, created a vibrant public space and added real value to the lives of many young people.

The Southbank Centre has said that it has no plans to redevelop the Undercroft used by skateboarders. In fact, they are in close discussions with the skateboarding community about how to improve the current skateboard area and about how the community might become more involved in the Southbank Centre's artistic programme.

Ace. Who would have ever thought that a bunch of skaters could influence government, or was it something to do with a mystery cabinet skater spotted in the photo below...

Element Moving Into 2 Wheelers?

Not content with ruling the skate world, Element have brought out this limited edition and rather spectacular fixed wheel bike.
Spotted by our eagle eyed team at this months Bread & Butter expo in Barcelona (write up coming soon), Element have commisioned a limited collection of these handcrafted bicycles, built by renowned European bike-maker Krabo. Element will be auctioning off these bicycles to benefit environmental nonprofits researched and approved by 1% For The Planet.
These traditional, lugged steel track frames apparently showcase colours and detail directly inspired by Element’s logo and true nature. The classic black frames are accented with wood wheels, donned with the finest leather, and built up with premium components. Apart from brakes and gears that is. Sounds dodgy to us, but hell, what a beautiful machine.

Manhead's Moving Onwards & Upwards

Well, don't we feel like the proud parents! We are very pleased to see our team rider, Josh 'Manhead' Young, becoming a rider on Independent UK. About time too, young Josh (ha!) has been loving the Indy's since he learned to ride and Independent have rewarded his loyalty in the best way possible.
It's been quite a few weeks for Josh, after coming second on the street course at NASS, this seems like just reward for one of the best up and coming riders in the UK.
As a memeber of the Vans team, he also features in a couple of sweet videos, just released by them, and if you click through to the full post you can see them in their full glory!

Well done Manhead, you're one in a million!

Some New Shoes For You To Peruse

Here's some rather tasty looking new footwear for you lucky guys to have a look at. Fresh in today, we've got some new éS, etnies and Emerica lines, and boy, do they look good.
First up, on the top line, is some new éS shoes, with the obvious standouts being the Bobby Worrest Krooked collaborations. Featuring some sweet Krooked artwork and little touches, these, the Prequel Mid, and the Square One are going to fly.
The middle line has one obvious star: The Etnies Ollie King Verte. A revival from back in the day, this leather high-top is an all time classic and one that is welcomed back with open arms.
The last shoe that has snuck onto the shot is an Emerica Heritic, what a billy no mates! Good job it looks the part then eh?!

Skaters Go On Rampage In Guildford

After the rain of last year, the sunshine was out again for the ever popular Rampage event which is held at stoke park in Guildford. Skateboarders and BMXers of all ages were ready to bust out their best moves in front of a big crowd, many of whom had come to support their friends and family on the day. Once I'd put up a variety of banners to represent the various sponsors who had donated prizes for the event, I got straight on the mini ramp that had just been resurfaced for a quick roll before things started to get kicked off. The Matrix trust had also organised an additional halfpipe for the day from Fearless Ramps which enabled everyone to keep going throughout the day in between the comp runs.

As per last year a dirt jump was set up away from the skatepark which provided another obstacle for people to use throughout the day, and although I witnessed two serious slams, there was some amazing stunts being pulled off during the competition which took place before the skate/bmx finals.

The skateboarders were split up into Under 16 and Over 16 groups, and skated in a jam format to decide who would be chosen for a place in the final round. The Under 16 final saw Guildford local Kieron charging at the large quarter while Farnham locals Josh and Joe did some decent flip tricks on the on the drive way, flat bank and hip to guarantee them a chance to win some well earned prizes.

As always, it is difficult to decide who comes where in the over 16 skateboarding finals, as the standard of skating is so good. This year saw local Guildford skaters Pete Adams, Ben Coughlan, John Balchin and Andy Bateup wow the crowd with some amazing tricks. Dean Robertson and Sam Ridges skated hard all day and impressed everyone with now consistent they are on a skateboard considering they've only just turned sixteen.

Standout tricks were: Nollie backside tail on quarter, backside heelflip driveway, nosegrind across and down gridbox, frontside smith down gridbox , switch 360 flip off driveway, frontside indy transfer and gap to noseslide over driveway.
After the over 16 finals it was time for best trick and for a change this year it was to be held on the mini ramp. James Thornton eventually came through with a gap transfer melon from the mini ramp into the flat bank on the street course, which brought an end to a perfect day.

RESULTS;
Under 16 Skateboard
1. Josh Playle
2. Kieron Mills
3. Joe Connor

Over 16 Skateboard
1. Pete Adams
2. Ben Coughlan
3. Dean Robertson

Thanks to the flowing they provided prizes:
Karl at T.K.C., Joe at FAZE7, Chris @ Blackbox, Jerome at Shiner, Steve at DUFFS, Leigh @ Dwindle and Simon Clark for photography throughout the day.

Friday Film Extravaganza!

It's been another busy, mostly blog free week again this week, so apologies for that, it's all in your benefit though as even more sale items have been put up online for your perusal - why not take a look and make all my effort worthwhile!?

Anyway, the Friday Film Extravaganza remains unaffected by this mini media blackout and we've got some real treats on offer...

First up is a sweet little edit spotted on the podcast section of the Adio website. Featuring Danny Montoya, Kenny Anderson, Nick Dompierre, Ernie Torres, Joey Brezinski, Ed Selego, amongst others, this video just makes me jealous of the quality of skating they must have in the States. Puddles? No way, we live in LA!

Next up is a lost and re-discovered video spotted on youtube of Route One Inline team rider Tom Portas doing his thang and very nice it is too, so we thought you might like to have a gander...

Here we have a video brought to our attention by our bebo buddy Toby, called Fully Haired, do you see what they did there?! Good stuff, the only thing missing is the explosions...

Here's a rather impressive edit of Riley Hawk (yes, that Hawk). He's obviously learnt a few things while growing up around the the most famous skater ever and we confidently predict big things will happen for this guy. (I don't think we really needed to, but hey we just did!)

FIGHT!!! Yeah, this is more like it. Here's a video from back in the day, featuring two of element's finest, Chad Mu$ka and Mike V defending their civil liberties against the might of the American security forces. Get stuck in there boys!!!
Please be aware that this video has multiple uses of the very naughty f-word so is therefore unsuitable for young 'uns.

The Super Size Sale Is On!!!

With most shoes from £19.99, (some at £4.99!), T-Shirts from £4.99 and decks from £19.99 amongst loads of other amazing deals, there is something in there for everyone.
You may have received the catalogue in the post recently, but don't forget that it is just the tip of the iceberg, as the website is the place to go to see the whole sale. Make some time though, there's a lot to see!
