Koston, The New Nike SB Pro?

So Twitter does have its uses after all. Spotted wearing a pair of Nike SB Dunks, Eric Koston has been papped by an obviously unhappy tweeter. Is this a scoop, or is Eric just enjoying wearing some non-Lakai shoes since he left the team. Who knows? So stay tuned for more info...

Fancy A Day Out? Part 2

Want to go to a skatejam with a difference? Then head on over to Revolution Skatepark in Kent on the 23rd of May. There you'll find the UK leg of the Volcom Wild In The Parks tour 2009.
Last year's affair, in Skeggy was one to remember, with our Manhead even picking up 3rd place in the over 16's event.
Entry's free, plus you'll get free lunch, drinks and free Volcom goodness and also the chance to win a place at the European Finals in Sweden to win one of the two flight tickets to the US WITP Champs. Sounds good eh? We'll you'd be right, so get involved!

Click through for more info about Wild In The Parks.
Wild in the Parks was born when we noticed something needed to change with the amateur skateboard contest scene. We decided to take a different path - the road less travelled - and offer something slightly removed. For those of you that are fed up with days of 1-minute runs, over and over again, we came up with a new jam format that alleviates both stress and boredom at events.
Wild In The Parks is for young up and coming skaters to come out and show their skills. Think of the event like a best trick contest; skaters are judged on the tricks they pull, never on their bails – and they are never left with the pressure of skating alone.
Wild In The Parks is about giving back to the skaters. With this in mind, the series is entirely free. There are absolutely no entry fees, you get to eat some free food, skate, cheer on your friends and go home with a ton of free prizes.

We Are The Champions (Of The Works)

We came, we saw, we conquered! Well, as cheesy as that sounds it is kinda true! Let me explain...
This past Saturday saw the second annual Team Competition occur at The Works, Leeds. Held in conjunction with DVS, Rockstar drinks & ourselves, the event centered around 4 man teams competing to be crowned Champions of The Works. Now, this is where it all started to go right for us.

For those of you that don't know, Leeds is home to just about the strongest skate scene in the country at the moment and three of our best riders (+ the fat team manager) all hail from these fair parts. So, we had home advantage but as you can see (if you paid attention in maths, that is!) three people don't make a four-man team. So, without having to resort to my stinkin' kickflips we needed reinforcements.

Local manual wizard Joe Moore was the man we needed. The lad is amazing - you've probably seen his videos on youtube, he makes Rodney Mullen seem uncreative... All was looking good for us, or was it? A few days prior to the event, just as it seemed everything had fallen nicely into place, Joe Lynskey was told he'd have to work & would most likely not be able to get to the park on time. What were we to do?

Never fear, as Avid's good mate & Bradfordian legend Doug McLaughlan was ready to pull on a Route One tee & shred on our behalf. Stoked!

We had an amazing team in Avid, Manhead, Joe & Doug. I genuinely thought we (they?) could win this event with ease. So, we all met on the Saturday morning & turned up at The Works to see what the other teams may well be like. Well, you had your usual local mates teams turning up, a fantastic group of skaters from Nottingham (great, friendly lads) going under the "Nise Rocks" moniker & our main competition - DVS.

Well, I say DVS but the cheeky buggers had called in reinforcements (How dare they!? Erm...) from the entire roster of Revival distribution riders. They had enough guys for two full teams but eventually went with the ridiculous team of local style icon and owner of massive pop - Mr Tom Harrison, Hornsea's finest ledge & bank technician - Paul Regan, (to be honest, he might even have more pop than Tom but don't let Tom know!), Cliche's newest recruit John Tanner & Brighton resident Louis Cooper. They were certainly a formidable crew!
Right, so you get the gist of it. We had a competition at The Works, some local lads were there to fight it out amongst themselves for their local pride and then you had the "big 3" of NISE, Route One & DVS. This was gonna be a good day!

The early runs were taken by the local youth, not disaffected miscreants, but fine upstanding young men that know how to shred. Whilst they may have taken 3rd in the "event proper" no one was left in any doubt that the bunch of Works regulars "the Dream Team" were the kings of the local groms. Not one of 'em over 14 in age (Liam is only 11!) & every one of 'em shredded and did themselves proud.

Then we were on to the big boys - I'm afraid to admit it but I don't know right much about the Nottingham skate scene. I know that historically it was massive (Carl Shipman & Mark Baines hailing from nearby Worksop) but sadly I'm unaware of much after those heady days. Well, the guys from Nise were up in attendance and what a great introduction to a scene they were. Everyone a genuine nice guy & they could bloody skate too. Their main guy, (sorry, I don't know his name) looked like a cross between Geoff Rowley & Jimmy Boyes and skated like Mouly - amazing! There was up and coming "name" Will Golding (Front blunt bigspin out first go on the handrail - piss off....) and two other lads who had that Cardiel thing going on. You know - half the time they looked out of control & quite scary but when they got it right it was a pleasure to behold. They took second in the whole comp & fully deserved it was too.

Hang on, I was talking about the "big 3" & I've already told you that the Dream Team came in 3rd and Nise Rocks came in second. What on earth happened to DVS? Well, I'll tell you. Now don't get me wrong, every rider in their team is amazing - that's why they're sponsored by DVS! And although they did skate pretty well in the first round (main street area), after witnessing Manhead, Doug & Avid in the spine area they threw in the towel!

So now you know that we did win & I haven't even started to explain what happened - Have I gone mad? No, not yet anyway... Basically our guys were killing it. Both rooms were a blur of genuinely shocking skateboarding & I was trying to capture it on film. I say, "trying" - I didn't know where to point my camera! There was so much being landed by our lads that I didn't see half of it in the melee! Obviously, the stuff I did manage to capture is available to view below but that doesn't tell the full story - it was an annihilation. I knew we'd stand a chance of winning but never dreamed it would be like this. If it was a football match we'd have been winning 7-0 at half time!

So, that's about it really. Well, other than to tell you about the Route One guys winning 9 of the 10 cash spot prizes in the best trick jam. The day certainly belonged to Avid, Manhead, Joe & Doug and as I watch through the footage now, I can't help but laugh as Doug & Avid walk off into the proverbial sunset, carrying their trophy high & proud whilst singing (quite predictably) Queen's "We are the Champions".
As we say in Yorkshire "IT WERE ACE"....

A big thanks to Tosh and Rupert at the Works, Matthew at DVS, Rockstar for supplying rocket fuel and to Avid, Manhead, Joe & Doug for winning.

See you next year - We are the champion's my friend da da da
da da der da da...
